Honors Experiences

Gateway to Honors

I have completed numerous experiences in my time at UC which include:

I entered the Honors program as a freshman in the fall of 2010.  I had the opportunity to explore the program through the Gateway to Honors course. I created a "This I Believe Statement," an Academic Strategic Plan, and my own honors experiential proposal.

The Honors Department has given me the chance to grow as a person, as a student, as a community member, as a traveler, and as a leader.  The connections I have made in Honors have given me opportunities I would never have imagined at another school. They have the best staff, the students are unique, and they will support your dream to go above and beyond.

Please review this document to gain a brief understanding of my background.

Hi my name is Kathleen Hurley.  I am a senior at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Food & Nutrition with a minor in Business Administration.  I am studying nutrition so I can understand how our bodies respond to different medicines, foods, and environments.  My goal is to work in nutrition policy and management after obtaining my master’s in public health as part of a combined public health MPH and registered dietitian (RD) program.

In my time at UC thus far, I have been involved in many roles, but I always keep service to others as a driving force for all that I do.   I currently serve as the Speaker of Senate for Student Government; I am a ROAR tour guide, a member of a social sorority, an At-Large member of the Student Advisory Committee for the University Budget, and I participate in undergraduate research.

During my last year at UC, I intend to continue my involvement with green roof research, something I began in the summer of 2011 as a WISE program member.  I thoroughly enjoy the research process and working with different students and faculty, all from very different backgrounds.  It is through my work in green roof research and Student Government that I have discovered my passion to serve others by working in a research policy setting to bridge the gap between policy, industry, and research.
